A retrospective study was conducted to determine the incidence of granular cell tumors of the brain in ChR-CD rats, used as controls in two-year toxicity studies conducted at Haskell Laboratory (1971-73). Two (1.6%) such tumors were found in 127 male rats, 13 to 25 months of age. No granular cell tumors of the brain were found in 128 female ChR-CD rats, 13 to 25 months of age. These appear to be the first reported cases of granular cell tumors of the brain in this strain of Sprague-Dawley rat.
